  2023 :Unizik Dean quits job , to contest under Labour party. The dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof Oby Lilian Orogbu, has quit her job for the House of Representatives race in 2023. Orogbu, a lecturer and dean in the federal university said she had to call it quit to vie for the position as a result of her love and passion for her people. Orogbu is vying on the Labour Party (LP), which is currently enjoying a boisterous popularity in Anambra State and beyond apparently because of the presidential candidate of the party in 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi and his OBIdient movement. Addressing LP stakeholders and supporters in Amawbia, she said her emergence as the faculty dean where she polled 120 votes out of 160 votes cast to defeat her two male opponents in a keenly contested election was an indicator of her capacity, capability and competence. The State Commissioner of Police gave the advice on Wednesday while decorating the newly promoted 39 officers from  the ranks of Deputy Suppritendents of Police  (DSP) to the ranks of  SP in the command at the police headquarters, Awka Anambra state.   Police Recover Stolen  Vehicle Used by Gunmen for Operation. Anambra Police Command has recovered a Mercedes Benz 4matic SUV dumped by criminals during operation in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area. Anambra State Police command’s public relations Officer, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this in a press release said a live AK-47 bullet, two masks were also discovered in the car. According to Ikenga, It is believed that the SUV was dumped by the criminals during operation on Monday, after it was driven into a ditch, where it was abandoned. Shock and grief are currently trailing the sudden death of the Majority Leader of the Anambra state House of Assembly Pham  Nnamdi Okafor who reportedly died in South Africa two days ago. When contacted most of the Lawmakers who  offered to speak on this development said  they are short of words over the death. According to the Speaker Mr Uchenna Okafor who spoke with our Correspondent on phone;  said  Anambra State House of Assembly uses this medium to notify the public of the death of one of her members and majority leader of the House,Hon.Dr.Nnamdi Okafor who was representing Awka South One Constituency. According to him" Information available to us indicate that Hon.Okafor slumped and died in South Africa. The cause of his death is  yet to be ascertained as we await the autopsy result. Rt.Hon.Okafor described the death of the Majority Leader of the House as a great loss to the Legislative Institution in the State, Awka

  Domestic Violence: Anambra establishes family Court .  Anambra state government has set up Family Court to tackle issues relating to domestic violence in the area . This is coming as cases of domestic violence has been on the rise in the state which one of the cases led to the suspension of the Chairman of Nnewi North local government area who was alleged have killed his wife recently. According to the Commissioner for Women Affairs Mrs Ify Obinabo while speaking to the Ultimate Business Women And Farmers Association in her office; said "the government of Prof Charles Soludo has zero tolerance to domestic violence let alone killing ones spouse and we as a ministry would continue to ensure that it is put under check.   Group Demands Justice for Man Killed for Allegedly Stealing Noodles Members of Enugwu village in Nanka community of Orumba North local government area of Anambra State, have demanded justice for a youth of the village, Mr Toochukwu Onyemelukwe, who was allegedly murdered by persons suspected to be vigilante members in the community in November 2021. Onyemelukwe, a home based youth from Nanka was said to have been arrested by the hoodlums who disguise themselves as security operatives on allegation of stealing noodles, and was later tied and tortured, after which he gave up the ghost. The sum which is for cooperative societies embarking on food production would be given to each electoral ward at the rate of N3 million per ward. Commissioner for Agriculture Dr Foster Ihejiofor who said this at the a visit of the Ultimate Business Women And Farmers Association Of Nigeria UBWFAN to his office noted that Gov Charles Soludo is introducing this to boost food production and also empower the respective Corporative Societies in the electoral wards in the area. NKIRU NWAGBO, As the Continuous Voters Registration, VCR, exercise ended yeasterday being   Sunday across the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that there would be no further extension so as to enable the Commission carry out other functions ahead of the 2023 general elections. This came as the various registration centers were besieged by registrants who tried to beat the deadline.
