"We Are Fighting Principalities And Spiritual Agents Says Archbishop Ibezim
As Diocese Demands Reports Of 2 Panels Of Enquiry
NKIRU NWAGBO
Awka Anglican Archbishop Alexander Ibezim has described the lingering crisis in the Diocese as a fight against Principalities and Spirituality contending that it is not a fight against flesh and blood.
This is coming as the leadership of the Diocese is demanding the reports of the two panels of enquiry into the alleged land sales by the Archbishop contending that it is improper and unacceptable to it for the Primate, Henry Ndukuba to set up such panels and is yet to make public the outcome of the two investigations .
Addressing the congregation shortly after the Communion during the Sunday service at St Faith Cathedral Awka , Ibezim stated that ;
"At this time of trial, at this moment, let us recognize that we are not fighting against flesh and blood; it is spiritual warfare, it is a battle against principalities and powers, rulers of darkness of this world, spiritual weakness in high places and so our battle is not a battle of flesh and blood"
"Bible enjoins us that we should not fight physically. This is not a time to fight with guns or fight with cutlass, but it is a fight that is spiritual"
He called on members of the Cathedral to remain united , Pray together and sustain their fellowship describing the altar of the Cathedral as a point of contact to prayers across the Church in the Diocese and the Province of the Niger "
The insurance on presenting the reports of the two panels of enquiry was hinged on the resolution reached at the meeting and signed by the Lord Chancellor of the Diocese Sir B.E.I Nwafor SAN , Ven K.E.N Chukwukamma PhD as Synod Secretary and Mr Eugene Chukwudi Okonkwo , which stated that ;
"The reason given in the letter that the compulsory leave against Archbishop Ibezim is meant to “facilitate impartial enquiry into the state of affairs of your Diocese to promote peace and reconciliation”is a ruse because the Primate failed to disclose that he had earlier constituted two distinct panels of inquiry for the same purpose of investigating allegations made against Archbishop Ibezim and the two panels submitted reports to him after their work which he has withheld and refused to release uptill date"
It recalled that the "1st panel was constituted by the Primate’s letter dated Wednesday, 13th August, 2025 headed by Honourable Justice Babashola Ogunade and the 2nd one was constituted by his letter dated Wednesday, 17th June, 2026 headed His Grace Archbishop Blessing Enyindah."
"By withholding the reports of the said two panels that investigated Archbishop Ibezim, the Primate violated section 75(3), (4) and (5) and section 76(3), (4) and (5) of the Constitution and Canons of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 2020 which mandatorily require him to submit the findings and recommendations of the panels to the Episcopal Synod for consideration which may after the consideration of the reports review, modify, reject, or adopt the recommendations which shall be subject to the approval of the standing committee and the approval of the Standing Committee shall be subject to ratification by the General Synod whose decision on the subject shall be final and binding"
"The Board emphatically warns that it will not accept any interference with the affairs of the Diocese of Awka by Rt Revd Ezeofor and urge him to concentrate on his work as Bishop of Aguata Diocese and not to be used as an instrument to destabilise or foment trouble in our peaceful Diocese of Awka"
"The Board directs all organs of the Diocese of Awka to remain loyal to His Grace, The Most Revd Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, PhD and to go ahead with their lawful activities and reject any interference or directive from Rt Revd Ezeofor"
Meanwhile the new coordinating Bishop sent by the Primate to oversee the Awka Anglican Diocese Rt Rev Samuel Ezeofor is yet to assume office as at the time of this report and efforts to reach the authorities concerned proved abortive.
