How I Arrested Akwa Okuko And Stopped Austin  Ndigwe Says AIG Orutugu (  rtd )

Former Anambra Police Commissioner and retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Ikioye Orutugu on Sunday narrated how he was able to apprehend popular Native Doctor Chigozie Nwangwu aka Akwa Okuko Tiwala Aku and checkmated Ozo Austin Ndigwe who was as it were parading himself as the Monarch of Awka Kingdom.


Recall that Nwangwu aka Akwa Okuko Tiwala Aku was recently released by Governor Charles Soludo from the Awka Correction Center after serving his jail term and Ozo Austin Ndigwe has hands off his claim to the thrown of Awka Kingdom which had unsettled the area in the past .


Orutugu who narrated this at his Thanksgiving Service at the St Peter's Anglican Church Amawbia in Awka South local government area of Anambra state.


He recalled that when he was posted to serve as CP Anambra state he saw it as a great challenge in view of the negative reports about the state .


"Before I came to Anambra state,  there is no day that you will not hear of  one bad story or the other"


"However,I was focused and I told myself that those negative stories must stop and it did stop"


"I  come from the remotest part of Nigeria, the beginning and end of this country which is Brass and for God to have discover me to go to Anambra to know what I  can do about kidnaping, armed robbery and cultism and rituals and I thank  God to have given me the capacity to have won that battle against crimes and criminality in this state".


 He stated that as a Police officer from rank one to the rank of the Assistant Inspector General of Police he  never lobbied for any promotion.


He recalled further that he had no particular strategy of fighting insecurity in Anambra state but chose  to fight crime without guns and  visited three primary and secondary schools as well as Universities to creat awareness and  talked  to the youths adding that schools resumed in earnest.


Orutugu expressed gratitude to the state 3fir assisting the Command in stopping sit at home.


"Anambra  not really an oil producing state and what we know Anambra for is buying and selling and you say that they should not open their markets and shops on Mondays and I said no  ! "


"That cannot happen under my watch because there must be buying and selling in Anambra state"


"Then with this man that was assassinated recently Mr Aiza Nwosu and his vehicle with public address system we started with Eke Awka market them to Onitsha a d then Nnewi Market "


"With the help of my Public Relations Officers and my media team the journalists in Anambra state which I cannot thank the press in Anambra state enough we restored the markets on Monday"


"The issue of the so called Native Doctors , I told Akwa Okuko that I will arrest him and he was arrested and I  told him if say that you can disappear, disappear from the detention when he was arrested I told the Governor that he had been arrested but today he  has turned a new leaf and now a good young man is a free man "



"Also they said that in the last 70 years that Imo Awka festival is always bloody and I had a meeting with the title men in Awka and we discussed about it and they  worked with me  and there has not been any  bloody Imo Awka festival"


"Then that other one called Gidigbam Gidigbam, Austin Ndigwe,  I told him to stay clear from what he was doing in Awka and I told him that if he continues, he was be arrested and he respected himself"


"And they gave me a title of Agu Ji Egbe of Awka  meaning "A Tiger With A Gun "and I was focused in the line of duty and I thank God for that grace "he said.


Traditional Ruler of Town Brass in Bayelsa state HRH Dr Otton _ Efebo- Shidi described Orutugu as a good ambassador of his people adding that he is a source of pride and bragging rights for his people.


"Today is wonderful and for one to start his service with God and end it with God by giving him thanks for making it successfully and that is glory to God Almighty"


"This beautiful and we are greatful to God as well and our brother Orutu6is a very great man and I have always followed from a young age to now and he is close to my immideate elder brother and he has done well on service and has distinguished himself in the Nigerian Police and he is giving us the bragging rights to brag about our brother"


"While he was a Commissioner he showed me the hall and I said that I am going to do about that hall and I gladly did and anything that concerns Police I would gladly assist them and being my brother, I had no choice but to help and it is something that is worth  doing" 


Speaking, the officiating Priest Ven Jason O Z Onyekagbusi described Orutugu as a testimony of dedicated service to the society and humanity.


"He is a gift to us the people of Anambra state and while he was here as Police Commissioner we are witnesses to his performance and that was why this Church gave him an award because he was indeed a great gift to the people of Anambra state" he said

  Anambra Tribunal Strikes Out Maduka Petition. Four More May Withdraw. As Soludo , Uba Set To Inspect Materials . NKIRU NWAGBO. The Anambra governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Awka today stuck out the petition filed by the candidate of Accord party Dr Godwin Maduka.   IPOB Suspends Sit At Home. The Indegeous People Of Biafra IPOB yesterday made a change of heart by suspending the proposed Sit At Home Order billed to commence on the fifth of November. Recall that the Director of Publicity for the body had earlier announced that it would commence a Sit At Home strike on the fifth of this month if it's leader Mazi Nnamd Kanu is not released unconditionally on the fourth of November.
