Hundreds of students in Anambra during the weekend took over the streets of Awka in a solidarity rally calling for more support for the homeland security, Udo Ga-Achi and also commended the state government for bringing crime to its barest minimum in campuses, communities and cities in Anambra state.
Addressing the crowd and the state government at the Light House,
Giant Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemeka Chukwuemelie, the ICC of NANS and leader, Joint Campus Council, disclosed that "today we led a delegation of Nigerian students for a solidarity support of the Homeland Security in Anambra State. We understand that this is an election period, and for over fourteen years, we have seen how elections have been in the state, and it has never been better than it is today. For some time now some miscreants who propose themselves as Nigerian students walk around and do things that should not be, we are here today to say that this is the original NANS. As you can see today, we have the three sectors of NANS, THE NAUSS, Polytechnic, and the university students, as well as making it a joint force of the National Associations of Nigerian Students".
Okoli noted that they are here for the solidarity rally and in support to tell them that we are seeing that because of their presence in the communities, cities, the Nigerian students are safer. "We now sleep better, walk around between 8/9 pm without another attack. We love to say thank you to Homeland Security and to the governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who found it very personal to take security very useful in the state. As Nigerian students, we must stand in support of any agency mobilised by the state government to ensure security. We are grateful to our solution governor for making it a priority that our security must be guaranteed in Anambra".
While appreciating Mr Ernest Ezeajughi for making out time to address the students disclosed that the students are aware that a security job is a difficult one with the things happening in the state expressed thank you message to His Excellency Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for every parastatal he has put in place and they are doing their best. So we recommend that more encouragement be given to these security agencies for better performance.
Earlier in his speech, Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi noted that the students coming to show solidarity to Mr Governor and Ndi Udo Ga-Achi is in the right direction and a welcome development. He maintained that the security has improved tremendously from what it used to be. He disclosed that Mr Governor and his Aids are working day and night to make the state better. Security is number one and that is our first pillar of this administration is to secure the lives and properties of Ndi Anambra.
We thank you for coming, the support you have given the Governor, it's a good thing because your coming from the communites, it's not the people working for the government that is saying this but you students who have been given the services of security and infrastructure, human capital development and what we are doing in education, health sector, environment cannot be over emphasized. So the Government in its entirety are working from all cylinders to make sure that Anambra state becomes more liveable and prosperous and students are part of the big picture. Since you come here to tell us that what we are doing in security is good, I also want to tell you about the good news of road infrastructure and electricity improvement with a new modernised house, the Governor's Lodge known as the Light House. It is because this government under the leadership of Professor Soludo who is prudent, serious and whose leadership is second to none in the Federation. That is why every kobo we show the people where we put it, we are changing even the school environment and so what you're seeing in security, we will improve more.
He frowned at the way some politicians are trying to politicise security which he noted is in the wrong direction. It is very bad for political parties and individuals using security to play politics and we condemn it. I expect all political parties in the state to come together and support what Mr Governor is doing on Security because security is very critical to our existence. Those members of Agunaechemba who assaulted the Nysc member are in the police custody and will soon face the law. If they are found guilty, they will be punished. I assure you that we are working hard to ensure that you are safe in your campuses, so continue to be good, don't get yourself involved in bad practices, and if you see something say something. Agunaechemba will continue to be at every nook and cranny of the state so that we can sleep with our eyes closed, he assured.
Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Anambra State Governor, Hon Okoye Okpala, in his address said "One thing about public office is that when the people you are serving commend you that means you are doing you. So I must say that Mr Governor is doing well and I am equally excited that they came today in support of this government. We are going to partner with them because every student needs security because they form the larger youth population from independent communities".
