The Pechilly Investigative Limited, has honoured the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Dr .Ikioye Orutugu, with an Excellence and Exemplary Leadership Award.

While presenting the award, the Chief Executive Officer of Pechilly Investigative Limited, Amb. Karen James, said the recognition was in appreciation of the CP's relentless fight against crime and his outstanding leadership in organizing and mobilizing security efforts to curb the tide of insecurity in the state.

According to her, the people of Anambra State are pleased with his policing strategies, which have drastically reduced incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

She added that residents widely voted the police under his leadership as the best security outfit in the state.

In his response while receiving the award, Dr Orutugu pledged to continue his fight against crime in Anambra, expressing gratitude for the recognition.

He reaffirmed his commitment to making Anambra State a safe haven for all law-abiding citizens and expressed joy that the state is conducive to effective community policing.

He noted that he has received overwhelming support from the public.

"The people of Anambra State have provided the support needed for effective policing, and the police are grateful for their cooperation," he said.

He said  that the police could not have achieved their current success without the backing of the people.

"If the masses do not support the police, there is no way we can succeed. I am not from Anambra State, and there is no way I and the police could achieve this without Ndi Anambra supporting us with vital information. The people of Anambra are very supportive in the fight against crime," he said.

However, he expressed regret that despite concerted efforts to convince the public to shun the sit-at-home order, some residents still comply with it.

"It appears that people have become used to a particular pattern of lifestyle. The sit-at-home has become a norm. People plan their week without including Monday. By God’s grace, Anambra people are hardworking, and I hope to see Monday restored as a normal working day. Ndi Anambra must wake up to the reality that Monday is not a holiday. Anambra survives on internally generated revenue (IGR), which thrives on buying and selling. Let us stop encouraging the sit-at-home culture," he said.

He disclosed that in the past three months, the police had launched Operation Udo Ga Chi to complement the government’s efforts in fighting crime.

According to him, while crime still exists in the state, the security agencies remain on top of the situation, noting that no place in the world is completely free from crime.

He expressed appreciation for his officers, who have remained committed on the streets in support of the fight against crime.

“If they were not supporting me, I wouldn’t have been succeeding. I also commend the military, the Civil Defence, Anambra State Vigilante Services, and others who have been assisting the police in tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities. I also thank the media for their wonderful support to the command,” he said.
