Anambra Vigilante kill two gunmen as police hunt for fleeing members

Two suspected gunmen have been killed by members of the Anambra Vigilante Group, AVG.

The incident took place Monday morning in Okija, Ihiala local government area of Anambra state around 3:30am yesterday.

Hurricane News gathered that the gunmen numbering about 15 stormed the camp of the vigilante members, thinking they were sleeping .

According to one of the AVG members who spoke with our Correspondent  in confidence, said, the gunmen came with AK-47 riffles and different charms.

The charms, according to the source, were hung on their necks, waists, hands and legs.

“When they came, they opened fire on us without knowing they stepped into the lion’s den.

“Let them continue coming we are ready for them, we killed two but others escaped with bullets in their body, nonsense people”.

While confirming the report, Anambra State Police command spokesperson  DSP Tochukwu Ikenga  called on proprietors of private hospitals and managers of public health facilities to help them to arrest fleeing gunmen, who escaped with bullet injury after an encounter with security operatives.

Ikenga said two of the gunmen were killed and two AK-47 riffles recovered from them, while their gang members escaped with bullet injuries.

According to him, "our men have inspected the scene of the event, and have gone into partnership with the vigilante group to ensure the fleeing members of the gang are arrested.

"We are only calling on operators of private hospitals, and manager of public hospitals in the area to be at alert and report people with bullet injuries, when they come for treatment.

“You may not entirely reject them, but upon admission, make sure you alert the police, so we can pick such a person and investigate the source of such bullet injury.” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the community were in jubilant mood over the killing of the suspects Monday.

One of the residents, who gave her name as Patience, said the hoodlums had been terrorizing Okija for long, the reason, according to her, the people constituted a committee.

“That decision, has started paying dividends. Our people are determined to succeed on this project” she said.
