UBWA Leader Seeks Capital Punishment For Kidnappers

OKEY MADUFORO.

The President of United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora, Mrs Nkiru Duru has  urged Nigeria's Government to make kidnapping a capital offence with death by hanging.

A statement signed by Duru  to mark the 2021 International Women’s Day, noted that the increased  cases of kidnapping especially  girls is alarming and called for radical measures to tame the  dangerous trend..

She urged security operatives to take more proactive measures  towards cubbing the menace of abduction of school girls in the country by terrorists and bandits.

According to the President" “This year’s theme: Women In Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World" gives us the opportunity to appreciate the efforts of women and girls in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic as well as encouraging them to participate actively in  politics despite the gender discriminatory society.

While  felicitating  with Nigeian women  and women all over the world for their resilience, hard work, and commitment to the progress of humanity especially Mrs Aisha Buhari the wife of President of Nigeria, she urged women to come together with one voice to achieve the desired freedom they deserved in the society.

According to Mrs Duru," Women should be given equal rights in the society , all these gender bias and discrimination, violence and abuse against women must stop, We must not be intimidated anymore, women should come out in one voice to assume their rightful positions in the society , after all governance is not all about gender.

"I want to advice women to stop running ourselves down. It is sad that witch hunting, backbiting and gossiping  have  become the order of the day. We should love ourselves the way our God loves us, He has special love for women but women are the cause of their own problems. That is why our men are denying us inalienable rights to aspire for greater heights and better furture," She added.
