2021 Anambra Guber: NGO Begins Enlightenment, Mobilization Drive .

A Non-Governmental Organisation,  Women and Family Advancement Initiative (WAFAI) has commenced political enlightenment and mobilization drive, ahead of November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra.

President and Founder of WAFAI, Dr Francisca Uche-Obi flagged off the programme during a meeting of state and local government officials of the group on Wednesday in Awka.

Mrs Uche-Obi said thought WAFAI is not a political party, it’s motive is to postively change the mindset of the masses to enable them make informed choices during elections.

“WAFAI was founded in the year 2009 and presently we have offices in 15, though we are trying to cover the 36 states.

“My NGO is doing a lot to improve on family life, for instance, we sponsored mass wedding involving more than 400 couples in Benue and more than 200 others in Ihiala, Anambra recently.

“We have equally trained and distributed equipments to many for them to establish businesses to help alleviate poverty.

“But for Anambra, our target is to enlightenment and mobilize the masses ahead of 2021 November 6 governorship election on better political participation because that would strengthen the nation’s democracy”, she said.

Uche-Obi said, Nigeria, politicians have before now used the masses to achieve their inordinate motives for a long time.

“We must understand the danger of money politics, violence before, during and after elections and other negative activities which usually leave the masses suffering”, she said.

According to her, the group with headquarters in Abuja intends to enhance political participation of the grassroots during this election in Anambra.

She told the officials drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state that politicians have sugar coated tongues, adding that the masses require adequate enlightenment on how to relate with them.

Mr Pualchuks Umenduka, National Vice President of WAFAI said for democratic governance in Nigeria to improve, the masses must know their dos and don’ts.

Umenduka who doubles as Anambra  Co-ordinator of the body added that the aim of the group was to change Nigeria society for good via effective political participation.

“If few bandits could terrorize the society, those who are good could as well invest their times in positive activities for the betterment of the community”, he said.

He said that 20 representatives from each of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state in addition to 20 state executives participated in the meeting.

“We hope to engage 20 representatives from each of the 326 political wards in the state in few days time, and through this channel we intends to spread our messages to the people”, he said.
