APGA Ticket is not reserved for you, Jonathan's Ex-Aide tells Soludo..

Former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Technical Matters, Mr Akachukwu Nwankpo has asked the former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to stop scaring other Aspirant.

He said that Soludo  should stop giving the impression that   the Anambra governorship ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been settled and reserved for him.

The former presidential aide who declared his intention in a press conference while reacting to news of the preference of Soludo by the stakeholders of the party insisted that it was a gimmick which Soludo employed to wade off all other governorship aspirants from the party, so it would be easy for him during the primary election.

Recall that Soludo had officially on Friday declared his interest to contest for the governorship seat in Anambra State on the platform of APGA.

Nwankpo who spoke to journalists at his country home in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area on Sunday said he is optimistic that if the conduct of the primary election of the party is free and fair, he would beat the former Central Bank boss to the ticket of the party, ahead of the November 6th governorship poll.

According to Nwankpo “Soludo is a very brilliant Anambra son who is renowned and very well travelled. I once teased him by asking him why he is here (gubernatorial race), when he ought to be in the world space. I hear Okonjo-Iweala every day, doing all the things he does around the world, and we believe he should be there too. That is the kind of place that befits him.

“The notion that the APGA ticket is settled and reserved for him is a strategy to convince everyone that the APGA race for the ticket is closed. It is a brilliant approach, but it is not true. It is only a gimmick to scare others.

“I have never heard the leaders of the party say that the APGA door is closed against other aspirants, but somehow, our great professor has convinced all that they should stay away, because he negotiated the ticket of the party many years ago.

“He is just playing a stunt that is making it look like everyone is demanding for him, but what you must know is that it is not true. I have tried the APGA door and it has opened, that is why I am convinced that the door is not shut yet. APGA is a democratic party and very rooted in democracy, so I have no fear that the ticket has been reserved for anyone.”

He said what Soludo was doing is  the strategy former Governor Peter Obi used to win reelection, when he got Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu; then leader of the party to endorse him for a second term as his last wish.

“Once Obi was able to do that, he went everywhere, telling people that his reelection was the last wish of Ojukwu. It is the same thing that Soludo is doing today. He first made it look like he was being begged by the people to come and contest.”

Nwankpo commended leaders of the party for opening the door wide for as many aspirants as possible, while also advising them to ensure the conduct of a credible primary election, saying that the party may lose the state if it failed to conduct a proper primary election to elect the right candidate.

Prof. Soludo had last week received the backing of the APGA National Assembly caucus, while he has been touted too to be the most favoured of all those aspiring to be governor on the platform of the party.
